A hobby that has something for everyone of every age. You can take an HT with you, have a mobile rig in your vehicle and a full station at home. Work other amateurs every day or night. Even send signals to satellites, the International Space Station or bounce signals off the moon. Hams can go analog or digital, communicate across town or around the world. Amateurs use their computers and radios to work through the internet. Amateurs participate in contests all the time and they also keep an eye the weather. They can purchase or build their equipment, from simple antennas to sophisticated radios, amplifiers, tuners and more. They belong to clubs, help each other and stand ready to provide communications in an emergency. Someone some where is on the radio all the time.
